That's Danny holding the cat in the picture. He's 17 now, but I have a story from when he was only five. After reading The Story of a Soul, I so wanted to be like St. Therese,
but I had more work to do than I realized.
At that time, I had 3 kids and Danny was the oldest. I was having one of those days when everything seemed to go wrong, and my patience was all used up. I ended up yelling at the kids and putting them down for a nap early. As I cried on the couch I caught the sight of Danny coming in concerned about me. He asked, "What's wrong, Mommy?"
"Oh, I just feel like a bad Mommy," I tearfully replied.
He hugged me and said, "You're not a bad Mommy. You're a good Mommy." After a little pause he added, "You just want to be like God, don't you? And you're not going to be like Him until you get to Heaven."
Somehow I don't think that message only came from him...

Also, if you missed it, be sure to read about Molly's missionary trip to El Salvador and help her out if you can. Thanks.

If you'd like to see what Danny is up to now, see this post. It includes this follow up post. (I guess the theme today is humility! ) Now you moms with little ones can get a glimpse of your future...and I have to tell you, it's still fun and hard at the same time. :) Each stage has its blessings. I just love them and I'm so proud of them. :D Now I can't wait for grandkids! (The girls are like, "Mommmmm! We're Catholic!" Okay not too soon...gotta find good husbands for them first...maybe I should let them finish school? ;) )

I really treasure those times when the munchkins can lift me up like that. What a wonderful blessing!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your roses. They are just beautiful!
wow, that is a powerful statement from a child! It does sound like God was saying it through him. Great story! Something similar happened to me when I first tried to potty train my son when he was nearly two. I was at my wit's end and getting angry at him and the situation when he comes up beside me as I was cleaning up his mess and said, "It's ok, Mommy" and rubbed my back. He had never done something so sympathetic before, I thought it had to be a sign from God.
ReplyDeleteP.S. your garden is amazing!! I miss those gorgeous big roses that everywhere in California. and your house looks sooo cute!
ReplyDeleteSomehow the kiddos just get their faith, don't they? I suspect that your story is exactly what is meant when Christ tells us that our hearts must be like a child's to enter heaven!
ReplyDeletewow. that was quite a statement. I bet it made you feel pretty darn special and loved. love the roses and thanks for hosting this great blog hop.
